Oconomowoc Animal Hospital has state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. This allows us to run bloodwork in the hospital to get fast results. We have the capability to run full chemistry panels, which give us information pertaining to your pet’s liver and kidney function, glucose level, electrolytes and thyroid levels. We also run a complete blood count (cbc) on your pet. Our CBC machine can tell us how many red blood cells, total number and what kinds of white blood cells (there’s 6!), and how many platelets your pet has. It can even give us information about your pet’s hydration status.
Our technicians are instrumental in running other laboratory work. They read ear cytologies, fecal floats, in-house heartworm and tick screens, skin impression smears and cytology, pancreatitis tests, feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) tests, urine cytologies and in some cases, fine needle aspirations.
Sometimes we send your pet’s labwork to an outside for more specialized tests. We do this on an as-needed basis.
